Identity Theft of the Virtual Identity
Late last week, SecondLife, a wildly popular online gaming community in which millions of people have created a completely virtual life, announced their databases were compromised. The company wasn’t clear about exactly what data was lost, and specifically about whether behavior and attention data was compromised, but one can start to see the potential risks of losing computer log files that describe in detail your every move in an virtual, online world. The data lost here may have vastly more richness that that lost in the recent AOL search data breach.
